This week is Dying Matters Week. As a GP and having personally experienced the pain of losing a loved one, I know just how important it is to have open, honest conversations about death, dying and the end-of-life journey. It’s easy to shy away from these topics, but talking about them helps us prepare, make informed decisions and support each other in ways that matter.
In my years of practice, I’ve seen firsthand how talking about death – whether it’s planning ahead, expressing your wishes or discussing care options – can help bring peace of mind, not just for those who are dying but for their families too.
Losing my wife to cancer at the age of 45 was an incredibly difficult chapter in my life. It taught me that having these conversations can make all the difference when the time comes. It’s not easy, but it’s essential. It allows us to make informed decisions, ease the burden on loved ones and ensure that we have the care and support we need in our final days #DyingMattersWeek #EndOfLifeCare
