Thank you to @BBCRadioManc for speaking with me today about Jess’s Rule.
My deepest condolences to Jess Brady’s family, and huge thanks for the courageous campaign they have led their efforts have made lasting change. I fully support and endorse this campaign.
But we must also tackle the underlying reasons why referrals can be missed:
• Long waiting lists to see specialists
• League tables discouraging referrals
• Lack of clarity in referral pathways
• Postcode lottery in diagnostic access
The government must invest more in prevention, public awareness, and empowering patients including digital tools for second opinions and direct referrals.
Jess’s Rule is an important step. Now we must build on it so no patient is left behind.
